Advent 2025

Open the Door: Hospitality in action:
Supporting the Diocesan Retreat Center, Muyinga
In the Christian tradition, hospitality is not simply a gesture—it is a calling. A doorway is a symbol of welcome, relationship, and hope. We open our doors so others may find rest.  Your parish is invited to open the door to others by helping to furnish the new Diocesan Retreat Center in our companion Diocese of Muyinga.  We are raising money for mattresses, bed accessories (sheets, blankets, towels, chairs and tables for bedrooms and chairs and tables for the meeting room and dining hall.
This Center will serve as a welcoming place for diocesan meetings, training workshops, and community gatherings in Muyinga. It will reduce accommodation costs for parish delegates and allow important ministry to happen year-round in a space. Just as our parish churches welcome the faithful, the new Retreat Center will welcome clergy, lay leaders, and community members seeking space for learning, prayer, training, and fellowship
This Advent, we invite your parish to participate in "opening the door" to God's grace and hope in our midst.

How to Participate
1. Capture Your Welcome
Take a photograph of your church’s front doors. Feel free to include parishioners or decorations—but the doors themselves should be the focus.  These doors represent the hospitality already alive in our communities—and the shared commitment to extending that welcome beyond our walls.

2. Send Your Photo
Email the image (with parish name & location) to [email protected].

3. Make a Gift towards the retreat centre
Collect donations in your parish and forward to the Synod office after Christmas and/or encourage individuals to e-transfer to [email protected] or send a cheque made out to the Diocese of Qu'Appelle.  Please ensure donations are marked "Open the Door".

As we prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ, you are warmly invited to join our diocesan Advent Course based on Voices of Advent by Matthew L. Skinner.

Together, we’ll explore the rich and sometimes surprising voices that speak into the
Advent story — prophets, angels, and ordinary people who help us listen anew for God’s promise of hope and renewal.

The course will run via Zoom on the first four Mondays in December (7:00–8:30
p.m.). Each session (led by the Bishop) will include reflection, discussion, and prayer as we journey together through this holy season.

Further details — including the Zoom link — will be shared soon.

Mark your calendars and plan to join us for this thoughtful and inspiring time of
preparation!
